VIAMIA - Vocational assessment and counselling for people over 40
VIAMIA offers a career assessment for people aged 40 and over, which analyzes the professional skills and knowledge as well as individual strengths and goals of the participants. In the process, participants learn more about labour market trends and what professional development opportunities are open to them.
Background
The Swiss Federal Council and the social partners would like to see employees over the age of 40 regularly undergo an assessment of their professional and personal situation and reflect on it in the light of the changing requirements of the labor market.
Goals
- To develop a free site assessment for adults age 40 and older who do not qualify for a comparable service.
- To improve the labor market opportunities of participants.

The State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation SERI is the project management agency.
Cantonal career advice centers
What was needed to realize and test your event?
On behalf of SERI, an overview of the existing services for assessment, potential assessment and career counseling for adults in the public vocational, academic and career counseling centers was prepared.
At the same time, the Swiss Conference of Directors of Occupational, Educational and Career Guidance (KBSB) has drawn up recommendations for the implementation of a pilot program.
Both papers were published in May 2020 and serve as the basis for the development of the new offering.
Pilot projects will be carried out in various Swiss cantons from January 2021 to December 2021.
Evaluation
Based on the evaluation of the pilot projects, the federal government and the cantons will jointly develop an offer to be implemented in all cantons from January 2022 to the end of 2024.
